Overview
The temple is believed to have been recognized as a pilgrimage site by Adi Shankaracharya in the 9th century. The sacred abode of Lord Vishnu has undergone numerous renovations, with the current structure built by the Garhwal Kings around two centuries ago.
Several legends surround the temple’s origin, the most widely accepted being linked to Lord Vishnu’s meditation. According to this legend, Lord Vishnu meditated in the Garhwal mountains for the welfare of mankind. To protect him from the harsh Himalayan weather, Goddess Lakshmi took the form of a Badri tree, providing shelter to the meditating deity.
When Lord Vishnu awoke and saw the tree around him, he declared that whenever this place is worshipped, Lakshmi’s incarnation as the Badri tree would be invoked before his name (Nath). While many legends are associated with the shrine, this summary aims to provide complete information about the Badrinath temple.

This was not our first time going to here. It is a great place to shop not too far from New York. We took the bus from Port Authority and traveled through the countryside to get there.
